About

Founded in October 2001 by an upstart group of cinephiles, AIFF has grown from humble roots into an internationally recognized celebration of independent film, drawing filmmakers and audiences from around the world. Anchored by the historic Varsity Theatre in downtown Ashland, the festival is more than a showcase of cinema—it’s a full-spectrum experience.

Audiences can expect a dynamic mix of narrative features, shorts and documentaries. With director talkbacks, lively panels, and pours of local wine from a region Vogue dubbed “the next Napa Valley,” AIFF invites you into an immersive experience where creators and community collide.

Critics and artists have taken note. Shawn Levy of The Oregonian calls it “a magical place...Southern Oregon doesn’t have anything else like it—nor, in fact, do most places on Earth.” And as Oscar-winning actress Helen Hunt put it, “Ashland is a paradise and the film festival is a rich, beautiful thing to be a part of.”

Whether you’re a longtime cinephile or just film-curious, AIFF will have something for you. To learn more and stay up to date on year-round special events and festival news, visit ashlandfilm.org
